Newport Beach is not just another surf spot; it is home to a variety of places and activities that are sure to appeal to everyone. Being home to one of the largest recreational boat harbor on the West Coast, a variety of boating activities, including whale watching, fishing, sailing, kayaking, and a ferry to Catalina Island are available to all. A number of competitive boating events occur almost every weekend, and weekdays during the summer, including sailing, rowing, and paddling. The Harbor is also home to the annual Newport to Ensenada International Yacht Race, the largest sailboat race in the world. The Balboa Peninsula, home of the Balboa pier and Balboa Fun Zone, offers a merry-go-round and ferris wheel, bungee jumping, arcade games, souvenir shops and eateries, boat rentals, and harbor tour boat rides. Newport is also home to a large shopping and entertainment district known as Fashion Island. Also in Newport Center, one can find the Orange County Museum of Art, and the Newport Theater Arts Center. But Newport is not only shopping and entertainment, it also has many nature trails and a boardwalk open for walking and bicycling.
